Human Design Explained

Have you ever wondered what makes you unique from the other people around you? Human Design, a synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern science, can help you understand the beauty and the innate power of just who you really are.

Human Design is often called the “new Astrology,” and the “intersection of science and spirituality.” Your Human Design chart is formulated by taking your birth date, time, and location – giving you specific information about your life path, your style of working, your relationship blueprint, how you experience energy in the world, and most importantly, how to create a truly meaningful and authentic life.

Your Human Design Chart

As social creatures, we are all subject to sociocultural conditioning. We are all taught explicitly, and implicitly, how to think, act, speak, define success, and so much more. These social rules lead us to feel inadequate and broken because we can’t ever seem to do it right. Human Design teaches us that each energy type has a different way of creating and making decisions.

We all have unlimited potential for wealth, health, good relationships, and happiness. It’s just that we are each uniquely designed, and therefore our definitions of wealth, health, good relationships, and happiness will be different for each of us. Your Human Design chart will be your best friend because it shows you how to energetically approach your life.

How To Get Your Human Design Chart

Get your free Human Design chart here. Human Design charts have three basic parts: the body graph, the birth chart, and the keynotes. At the bottom of your chart, you will see a section called Keynotes, which is a short summary of the most important parts of your chart. The keynotes tell you

    • your type and your unique decision-making strategy,

    • your authority—whether you are spontaneous or whether you need time to make good choices—and

    • your emotional theme—which emotion you may find most challenging in your life. (Rest assured, if you live true to who you really are, you dramatically improve your experience of your emotional theme.)

The easiest way to begin benefiting from Human Design is to learn your type and to follow the strategy for your type. The five types are the Manifestor, the Manifesting Generator, the Generator, the Projector, and the Reflector.

Human Design Types

Manifestor / Initiator

Spiritual Purpose: Translate Divine Inspiration into action.

Quantum Purpose: To initiate people into the frequency of transformation and creativity through direct access to the Quantum Pulse.

Emotional Theme: Anger.

Manifestors are here to get things started. They have unique bursts of intense energy that are followed by equally intense periods of rest. Manifestors’ intensity is felt by everyone around them and inspires change in the lives of those they come in contact with.

Generator / Alchemist

Spiritual Purpose: Turn inspiration into form.

Quantum Purpose: To physically manifest creativity and express through devotion.

Emotional Theme: Frustration

At 35% of the population, Generators are here to get stuff done. Generators are here to respond to the needs of the world and their seemingly endless energy is perfect for making real change.

Manifesting Generator / Time Bender

Spiritual Purpose: Turn inspiration into form.

Quantum Purpose: To physically manifest creativity and speed up the quantum process and linear time.

Emotional Theme: Frustration and Anger

If Generators are here to get stuff done, Manifesting Generators are here to get a little bit of everything done. Generators tend to be focused in one area while Manifesting Generators are good at a little bit of everything. They are trailblazers and inspirational to those around them.

Projector / Orchestrator

Spiritual Purpose: Here to anchor the energetic template of what we are here to create, to align the energy of the world and heal the planet’s energy.

Quantum Purpose: To hold the energy template of what’s to come and clear the vibration of the collective consciousness.

Emotional Theme: Bitterness.

At 20% of the population, Projectors are here to guide the world. Projectors have a unique and intense gift of being able to truly see those around them and offer meaningful advice.

Reflector / Calibrator

Spiritual Purpose: To be the barometer of the alignment of humanity with Heart.

Quantum Purpose: To mirror to others the Human condition and Human potential.

Emotional Theme: Disappointment.

Representing less than 1 per cent of the population, the Reflector is the rarest of the Human Design types. The Reflector is a truly unique, unusually sensitive person who must be in the right place with the right people to experience true happiness.

A Brief History Of Human Design

A synthesis of astrology, the I’Ching, Kabbalah, the Hindu Chakra system, and quantum physics, Human Design is a relatively new science of self-discovery. The entire system was transmitted to Robert Alan Krakower during a mystical experience in Ibiza, Spain, from January 3–11, 1987. A voice told him that this system was crucial to helping people on the planet make vital shifts in consciousness for the evolution of mankind. Krakower emerged from this experience a changed man, and soon after he changed his name to Ra Uru Hu.

Ra was told that while he was one of few people who consciously received the information about Human Design, the energy of the system was transmitted to all of us, and it belongs to all of humanity. He was a reluctant messenger and mystic at best, but he spent the rest of his life sharing the theory of Human Design.

His courage has helped people discover who they really are, what they are here to do, and how they can go about living an authentic and abundant life. Human Design is not a religion. It doesn’t matter whether you come from a Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, or metaphysical background. Knowing your Human Design simply helps you know how to become the person you were created to be in an easy and joyful way.

Authority In Human Design

Authority is key to knowing how you make the right decisions for you.

Actualizing Authority (Splenic Authority)

Actualizing Authority means you are designed to know, in the moment, what feels right to you (or not). Having Actualizing Authority means that you can be spontaneous with your decisions. You don’t need time to contemplate or sit with decisions. You will know what is true for you immediately.

Evolutionary Authority (Sacral Authority)

Evolutionary Authority means that you have a defined Sacral Center and that there are no additional energies influencing your Sacral. Your Sacral is the only decision-making center in your chart, and your Sacral response in the moment is the correct authority for you at any given point in time.

Creative Authority (Emotional Authority)

You are not designed to be spontaneous when you have Creative Authority. You need time to make decisions and learning to wait for clarity is essential to help you avoid experiencing disappointment in your life’s choices.

Creative Authority can influence the way the Strategy for your Type works. The Strategy for your Type is still essential, but if you have Creative Authority, you have to check in with your Strategy and sense how you feel over time.

Orchestrated Authority (Self- Projected Authority)

Only Projectors have self-projected authority. Self-projected authority comes from a channel connecting the Identity Center to the Throat Center with no other overriding energies defined in the chart, such as the Solar Plexus or the Spleen.

Self-projected authority means that you have to “see” your decisions reflected or projected through others to get clarity. In order to really know what is correct for you, you need to have a circle of close friends who you can talk to about your choices. You need to hear yourself talking to others and see their response to know whether something is correct for you or not

Mental Projected Authority

Mental projected authority is also only experienced by Projectors with a defined Ajna to the Throat Center and no other overriding energies. Mental projected authority, just like self-projected authority, means that you have to talk to other people to get clarity about which invitations are right for you.

Resource Authority (Ego Authority)

Resource Authority means you have a defined Resource Center, and you don’t have Creative Authority.

Because the Resource Center is about having sustainable energy and resources (or not!), if you have Resource Authority, you won’t decide to do something unless you have the energy or the resources. It also can signal whether a choice is aligned with integrity or not.

Human Design Lines

Just as in astrology, your energetic configuration is created at a specific time, depending on where and when you were born. Your moment of birth locks in your personality traits and your unique Human Design.

When we look at a Human Design chart, we are usually only looking at the body graph, the triangle that is the “map” of your energy. The gates and lines that create the definition on your body graph are a snapshot of the positions of the planets and gates at the moment of your birth.

The lines of energy create the Human Design profiles that can be found in your keynotes section on your chart. Each profile contains two numbers. Each number found in a Profile has a specific meaning. The first number in your Profile is the element of your personality of which you are consciously aware.  The second number in the Profile may be unconscious and more hidden from you.

Your Profile can be thought of as an explanation of your conscious and unconscious archetype and the themes associated with that archetype. Some people are aware of their unconscious Profile, but because it is unconscious they do not have much control over its expression.

The six lines are:

Line 1: The Investigator / The Resource

The Investigator needs information and feels safe when they have sufficient data.  (The internet was created for Line 1 Profiles.)

Line 2: The Hermit  / The Responder

Line 2 Profiles need alone time to integrate experiences and to reset their energy.  The Hermit needs space to feel good and grounded. There is a certain magic to having a Line 2 in your Profile. Once you have taken time away, it’s almost as if other people energetically perceive that you are ready to be invited out to do things and be a part of the community again. Your friends and family seem to always find you when you hide and will call you back out into life.

Line 3: The Martyr / The Explorer

The Martyr must experiment with their ideas and be allowed to make mistakes without judgment. There’s no getting it wrong for the Line 3 Profiles,  only figuring out what works based on their understanding of what doesn’t work

Line 4: The Opportunist  / The Stabilizer

The Opportunist builds a foundation of friendships and needs to network as well as share. Line 4 Profiles need people to accept them for who they are; they need to know what’s next and be prepared to feel safe. (Line 4 Profiles don’t handle being in limbo well.)

Line 5: The Heretic / The Visionary Leader

The Heretic is here to teach whatever they’ve experienced in life. They are considered karmic mirrors and are often subject to the projections of others. It’s through relationships with Line 5 Profiles that others discover what they need to heal the most within themselves. Line 5 Profiles need to trust that you will see the truth about them to feel safe, and they sometimes hide their truth very deep when you first get to know them.

Line 6: The Role Model  / The Adept

The Role Model literally models for others what they are here to share and give the world. Line 6 Profiles need to “walk their talk.” They travel through three distinct life phases:

The first phase (birth until age thirty) is a youthful phase of experimentation and experiential learning.

The second phase (ages thirty to fifty)  is a long cycle of healing, growth, and studying.

The final phase (over fifty) is a  cycle of living what they’ve learned.

Line 6 Profiles need to feel that what they are participating in is worth their effort in order to find meaning and energy in life.
