Go to www.freehumandesignchart.com to get your free Human Design chart. Human Design charts have three basic parts: the body graph, the birth chart, and the keynotes.
At the bottom of your chart, you will see a section called Keynotes, which is a short summary of the most important parts of your chart. The keynotes tell you:
- your type and your unique decision-making strategy,
- your authority—whether you are spontaneous or whether you need time to make good choices—and
- your emotional theme—which emotion you may find most challenging in your life. (Rest assured, if you live true to who you really are, you dramatically improve your experience of your emotional theme.)
What Your Natural Design Chart / Bodygraph Tells About Your Life
Many come to Human Design, or natural design, with questions. Will it make me more money? Does it help me lose weight? Does it make my relationships stronger? The answer is yes! Sort of.
The promise in Human Design is different from other promises you’ve heard before. So many means of self-development or improvement are a one size fits all approach.
We are all so different, and Human Design shows us that there are five energy types: the Manifestor Initiator), the Manifesting Generator (Time Bender), the Generator (Alchemist), the Projector (Orchestrator), and the Reflector (Calibrator).
Each energy type has a different way of creating and making decisions. But that doesn’t mean that we don’t all have the same potential for wealth, health, good relationships, and happiness. It’s just that we are each uniquely designed, and therefore our definitions of wealth, health, good relationships, and happiness will be different for each of us.
The more you learn about yourself, the more freedom you’ll have to create a life that is in alignment with what’s right for you.
I Generated My Human Design Chart, What’s Next?
You have your Human Design chart, and you are now completely confused. At first glance, the chart can be overwhelming and foreign. You’ve got numbers, symbols, and this weird person shape in the middle of all of it.
Let’s break it down so it is a little easier to understand. You can always book a Quantum Human Design reading and have us do the heavy lifting.
Each Human Design chart has three parts: the body graph, the birth chart, and the keynotes. The keynotes are a great place to start because you will find:
- your type and strategy (this is the foundation of everything in Human Design)
- your authority—(this is how you need to approach opportunities and decisions)
- your emotional theme—which emotion you may find most challenging in your life. (Rest assured, if you live true to who you really are, you dramatically improve your experience of your emotional theme.)
Reading Your Bodygraph
- Go to your keynotes section and find your Human Design type and your authority.
- Look at your Centers. If they are colored in, they are defined. If they are white they are undefined. To put centers in the most basic of terms- defined centers put out energy and undefined centers take in energy.
- What is your profile? This can get tricky but for now, just know that your profile determines how you interact with your life path. It will have two numbers and these two numbers represent different energies. You can read more about profiles HERE
The Five Energy Types
The easiest way to begin benefiting from Human Design is to learn your type and follow the strategy for your type. The five types are the Manifestor Initiator), the Manifesting Generator (Time Bender), the Generator (Alchemist), the Projector (Orchestrator), and the Reflector (Calibrator). You can find your type at the bottom of your Human Design chart in the Keynotes.
Each personality type has a unique strategy for making decisions and being in the world. Knowing your type can help you develop confidence and trust in your capacity to make reliable decisions for yourself.
What Each Energy Type Means
If you’re like most people, you’ve probably gone through your life doing okay, or maybe even fine. You’ve had some success and you’ve had some failures. You know that there is more out there for you, but you just don’t quite know how to fully articulate it.
The hard truth is, most of us aren’t raised to live out the full potential of who we are. We are taught to go out in the world and make things happen. While that works for some people, for most of us taking that kind of action just results in feeling frustrated, bitter, or disappointed and we feel like a failure.
We are all powerful creators. But in order to create in a powerful way, you have to know how you operate. Your Human Design type shows you exactly how to create in a way that is empowering, fulfilling, dynamic, successful, and exciting.
Manifestors (Initiators)
Manifestors (Initiators) are here to kick things off. They are independent and have a deep impact on those around them. They have a closed and repelling aura which can cause challenges with connecting to other people. This closed aura is never personal. Manifestors (Initiators) are always on a mission and don’t want to be interrupted, or they are simply resting after their latest adventure.

Generators (Alchemists)
Generators (Alchemists) are the life force of Earth. They have a defined sacral center which gives them endless access to energy. Generators have an open and enveloping aura that draws in opportunities. Generators need to be busy but only with opportunities that light them up inside.

Manifesting Generators (Time Benders)
Manifesting Generators (Time Benders) also have a defined sacral center like a Generator (Alchemist) but they are here to jump around. Pure Generators (Alchemists) need to take things step-by-step, perfecting along the way. To others, the Manifesting Generator appears (Time Benders) to be “all over the place.” But a Manifesting Generator (Time Bender) is uniquely capable of getting more done than most people, and they can sustain this pace over a long period of time.

Projectors (Orchestrators)
Projectors (Orchestrators) are here to guide. They have a focused and absorbing aura that allows them to become experts in the things they love. Projectors (Orchestrators) do not have a defined sacral center so they do not have consistent access to energy. They require a lot of rest and relaxation time so they can focus. Without this focus time, they can’t become the expert guides they are designed to be.

Reflectors (Calibrators)
Representing less than 1 percent of the population, the Reflector (Calibrator) is the rarest of the Human Design types.
The Reflector (Calibrator) is a truly unique, unusually sensitive person who must be in the right place with the right people to experience true happiness. A Reflector (Calibrator) should be honored and valued by those around them, as they serve a truly unique role that can help the rest of us make decisions that can improve the welfare of all.

Authority In Human Design
Although decision-making is tied directly to your strategy, your authority drives the way you use your strategy in the most effective manner. Your defined centers will determine your authority. Not all centers carry authority, so your personal authority will depend on your type and your definition.
How Your Authority Influences Your Decisions
Authority will also be shaped by your social conditioning and your level of emotional maturity. During your journey, you will be forced to reckon with the way your social condition affects you. While this is an uncomfortable process, awareness of old patterns begins to heal and transform these energies into deep sources of wisdom.
The more you clear your old energy patterns, the more effectively your natural decision-making skills (your authority) can function. You can then begin to use your authority along with your strategy to help you make better decisions for your life.
It’s very important to understand that authority does not override your strategy—it just shifts the way you use your strategy so that your decisions and choices are even more in alignment with the overall energy in your chart.
Sacral (Evolutionary) Authority
Sacral authority means that you have a defined Sacral Center and no additional energies influence your Sacral. Your Sacral is the only decision-making center in your chart, and your Sacral response in the moment is the correct authority for you at any given point in time.
Splenic (Actualizing) Authority
The spleen is the center for survival, time, health, and intuition. Because it is the energy for basic survival, it is very time-centered and always operates with an intuitive pulse in the moment. You trust your gut and act on it.
This is pretty easy for Manifestors (Initiators) and Projectors (Orchestrators), but sometimes it can be confusing for Generators (Alchemists), who may wonder if their spleen overrides their Sacral response. For Generators (Alchemists) with splenic authority, their Sacral response in the moment is correct. Your spleen and your Sacral work together.
Emotional (Creative) Authority
The defined Emotional Solar Plexus is a motor center with energy that pulses in waves and If you are emotionally defined, you probably know that you have moods or changes in your emotional energy pretty regularly.
It’s pretty common for emotionally defined people to be terrified of making decisions. They often have a history of enthusiastically leaping into decisions and then waking up a few days later only to find that their mood has shifted and now they are obligated to finish a project or a relationship that they just aren’t in the mood for anymore.
Understanding emotional authority will help you make better choices and significantly improve your chances that your mood won’t affect your commitments.
If you have a defined Emotional Solar Plexus, you are not here to be spontaneous. Be careful of others who will often put pressure on you to leap into things. Leaping into things without waiting for clarity will only create chaos in your life if you have emotional authority.
Ego (Resource) Authority
Only Manifestors (Initiators) can have ego authority. Ego (Resource*) Authority is when your Will Center is connected via a defined channel to the Throat Center. With Ego (Resource*) Authority, you don’t have to wait for anything before you take action.
The one caveat with this is making sure that you are well-rested and ready to take on the world. A defined ego is designed to have cycles of work and rest. It’s easy with the willpower of the ego to push through to burnout and damage your health. If you have ego authority, check in with yourself to see if you need some downtime before you leap into the next commitment.
Self-Projected (Orchestrated) Authority
Only Projectors (Orchestrators) can have self-projected (Orchestrated) authority. Self-projected (Orchestrated) authority comes from a channel connecting the Identity Center to the Throat Center with no other overriding energies defined in the chart, such as the Solar Plexus or the Spleen.
Self-projected (Orchestrated) authority means that you have to “see” your decisions reflected or projected through others to get clarity. In order to really know what is correct for you, you need to have a circle of close friends who you can talk to about your choices. You need to hear yourself talking to others and see their response to know whether something is correct for you or not.
Mental Projected (Orchestrated) Authority
Mental projected (Orchestrated) authority is also only experienced by Projectors (Orchestrators) with a defined Ajna to the Throat Center and no other overriding energies. Mental projected (Orchestrated) authority, just like self-projected (Orchestrated) authority, means that you have to talk to other people to get clarity about which invitations are right for you.
Lunar (Orchestrated) Authority
Reflectors (Calibrators) are the only type that has Lunar (Orchestrated) authority because they don’t have any definition in their charts.
It is vital for a Reflector (Calibrator) to allow a full lunar cycle to pass (28 days) before they make any decisions. During the Lunar Cycle, the change in energy will allow the Reflector (Calibrator) to sample energy from other authorities and only then can they come to the right decision for them. It would be very helpful for Reflectors (Calibrators) to track the transits when they are making a life-changing decision.

The 9 Energy Centers
In Human Design there are nine energy centers that may be defined or open. The way that your centers are defined, or open, are the building blocks of your type and authority.
The configuration of the Centers in the chart tells you about how your energy works in the world, what you’re here to learn from others, and what you’re here to give to the world
When a center is filled in it is defined. These defined centers are full of the energy that makes you who you are and the energy is always there. An undefined center has small amounts of energy that you can draw on with great flexibility.
Defined centers have fixed and consistent energy. This energy will always be there for you and radiates out to impact others. Defined centers have their own issues, but in general, they are much easier to deal with than the sometimes traumatic experiences of open centers. To live out the beauty and the deep impact of your defined centers, you have to live your Human Design strategy. It will empower you always to know what to do.
Open centers are white, undefined, and mutable. The energy here is inconsistent and depends on your environment and mood. Understanding your open centers will empower you to work with your energy instead of being victimized by the energy you take in.

As you can see, each one of us has a unique authority for experiencing the world. Knowing your type and strategy is the most important information you need to know in Human Design. If you follow your strategy and authority, according to your type, your life will invariably improve and become an expression of who you truly are.
It’s important to note that while each one of us is different and magnificent, it is truly in the sum total of the parts of who we are as humans that the true elegance of Human Design and humanity is revealed.
