Gate 6 in Human Design is known as “The Gate of Conflict” or “Friction.” Here’s a concise summary to get us started:
Location: Gate 6 is located in the Sacral Center, connecting to the Solar Plexus Center.
Theme: It’s associated with conflict resolution, emotional clarity, and the process of moving from confusion to understanding.
Key attributes: Diplomacy Emotional intelligence Problem-solving Mediation skills
Purpose: Gate 6 energy helps navigate conflicts and find solutions through emotional awareness and clear communication.
Potential challenges: Those with Gate 6 defined might struggle with avoiding conflict or becoming overly involved in others’ disputes.
When activated: It can bring an ability to see multiple perspectives and find innovative solutions to conflicts.
Before we look at Gate 6 in depth we need to look at what are Gates in Human Design.
In Human Design there are 64 gates. gates are extremely helpful for an even deeper insight into your unique design. Gates are a representation of specific energetic themes that give you further insight into your personality, what drives you, your life purpose, your relationships, what fulfills you creatively, and even how your intuition works.
There are two gates for each channel. Your defined gates are energies that you have consistent access to and your open gates can fluctuate depending on what environment you find yourself in. What Is Gate 6 In Human Design?
Gate 6 connects the Sacral to the Emotional Solar Plexus. It is a penetrating energy, meaning that it can break into people’s auras. It is emotional and energetic, not seductive.
Sexually, this is the energy that “locks on to” another person’s aura and, if used properly, can be a gateway to true intimacy. The sexuality of the sixth gate is emotional. It needs clarity over time. This means that the gate 6 energy needs to wait before engaging in relationships until you use your strategy, and authority, to determine if this relationship is right for you. If you do not wait for clarity, the relationships (sexual or otherwise) can be volatile.
Volatility continues with gate 6 as it contains the energy of both war and conflict. This energy can be very defensive. Defensiveness is not always a bad thing, as defense is how we protect ourselves, and our loved ones. Clarity is especially crucial here so you do not cause destruction.
Gate 6’s Function
Energy flow:
Gate 6 forms a channel with Gate 59 when both are defined, creating the Channel of Intimacy. This channel connects the Sacral Center to the Solar Plexus Center, influencing how we process and express emotions in relationships.
Decision-making:
People with Gate 6 defined often have a natural ability to make decisions in emotionally charged situations. They can help others navigate through conflicts by providing emotional clarity.
Emotional waves:
Gate 6 is part of the emotional solar plexus circuit, which operates in waves. Those with this gate defined may experience emotional highs and lows as they process conflicts and seek resolution.
Interpersonal dynamics:
In Human Design, Gate 6 energy is crucial for understanding and improving relationships. It can help individuals recognize patterns in conflicts and develop strategies for healthier interactions.
Shadow aspects:
When not properly integrated, Gate 6 energy can lead to excessive involvement in others’ conflicts or a tendency to create drama. Learning to use this energy wisely is key to personal growth in Human Design.

The Emotional Solar Plexus Center
The Emotional Solar Plexus center is the sixth energy center in Human Design. This is the center for using emotion to understand our life experience. Without emotion, we can not truly experience the world, as emotions bring us closer to others and to ourselves. As we develop our awareness of emotions we can strengthen our insight into a variety of opportunities.
Gate 6 Circuitry
Gate 6 is in the Tribal Circuit. The Tribal Circuit revolves around the survival of your tribe. It is supportive and protective, of family and of the greater community. Tribal energy takes individual aspirations and channels that energy for the good of the tribe.
Within Tribal Circuitry there is the Defense Circuit which uses your Gate 6 energy for protection, sharing of resources, having children, caring, feeding, connecting, and transmission of values that ensure the survival of your community. This is mamma bear energy that is caring but not afraid of a fight.
High Expression Of Gate 6
In the high expression gate 6 is very powerful. With a defined gate 6 you are designed for impact and intimacy. Your energy is also creative and emotional. Because gate 6 is in the Solar Plexus it is subject to the emotional wave and needs time before making decisions- this is true even if you have an undefined Solar Plexus. In fact, if you have a defined gate 6 and an undefined Solar Plexus you magnify the emotional energy of those around you. This magnification of energy can have a strong impact on those around you so be sure to stay close to your true authority.
Low Expression Of Gate 6
Conflict and friction are the low expression of Gate 6. Conflict is not always a negative but in the low expression, this is unproductive conflict. If you are not living your design you may find yourself instigating conflict just for the sake of conflict rather than for productive growth.
Passions Of Gate 6
The passion of gate 6 is intimacy. You leave a lasting impression on those you encounter and you connect to others on a very intimate level. These intimate connections are comfortable for you but can be very uncomfortable for others who are not accustomed to your penetrating energy.
Friction And Conflict
All energy can be negative and positive. On the negative side of the emotional spectrum Gate 6 can be emotionally reactive, volatile, and chaotic. It can waste its energy on things that do not matter and cause unneeded conflict. Conversely, Gate 6 can use conflict to cultivate peace and has the emotional bandwidth needed to cultivate relationships. It is not that friction and conflict are inherently bad but the energy must be used carefully.
Intimacy And Sexuality
Gate 6 is designed to create an awareness between sexuality and feelings. This gate also acts, like an actual gate, either opening or closing to intimacy. The Tribal Circuit energy is responsible for procreation and uses your intense emotional maturity to ensure that matters of war and procreation are not entered into lightly.
The Not-Self Quality Of Gate 6
If you do not live your design by following your strategy and authority you move into the not-self. Gate 6 manifests in the not-self as self-doubt. You instigate unproductive conflict. You are impulsive. You use push and obsess over intimacy. The powerful Gate 6 energy can leave a wake of destruction in its path if it slides into the not-self.
Tips For Using Gate 6 Energy
- Keep careful tabs on your feelings and moods. You can have a strong emotional impact on those around you.
- All Gate 6 energy needs to wait for clarity before action but this is vital for those with a defined Gate 6 and defined Emotional Solar Plexus. You are designed to wait.
- Others are not as comfortable with intimacy as you are. Don’t take it personally.
- Friction and conflict can be powerful forces for both good and evil. Make sure the situation warrants a fight before engaging. Use your strategy and inner authority to decide what is right for you.
