Gate 22 In Human Design – What Is It?
Gate 22 resides in the Solar Plexus Center and is connected to Gate 12 in the Channel of Openness. Gate 22 is also part of the Individual and Knowing Circuits. Gate 22 unites the energy for emotional vulnerability and social grace. This combination is highly appealing to others, as long as the energy is in the right mood. Gate 22 contains mood shifts that can be highly dramatic, and reveal an antisocial side.
Those with Gate 22 in their charts are amazing listeners who put others first. By honoring others’ feelings they are empowered to make change available where it is needed.
What Are Gates And Gene Keys In Human Design
In Human Design there are 64 gates. Gates are extremely helpful for an even deeper insight into your unique design. Gates are a representation of specific energetic themes that give you further insight into your personality, what drives you, your life purpose, your relationships, what fulfills you creatively, and even how your intuition works.
There are two gates for each channel. Your defined gates are energies that you have consistent access to and your open gates can fluctuate depending on what environment you find yourself in. Gate 22 resides in the Individual and Knowing Circuits. The Individual Circuit is designed to serve the world through individual actions. Individuals are empowered to follow their own ideas and inspirations. The Individual Circuit is lone wolf energy and can often feel like an outcast.
Gate 22 energy, in the Knowing Circuit, is the energy for creativity. This type of creativity drives humans to grow and evolve. Without creative ideas, we would not have survived as a species. This intrinsic knowledge is not based in logic. Those who experience it often struggle to express how they “know” something.

The Energy Spectrum Of Gate 22, Gene Key 22
All energy in the Human Design chart exists on a spectrum of potential. Gate 22 energy can help you, or hinder you, depending on how you approach it.
On the helpful side of the spectrum, Gate 22 contains the energy for extending grace to yourself and other people. Gate 22 understands the human potential for emotion. Emotions are not good or bad- they just exist. We determine how we experience emotion and Gate 22 gives us the potential to craft our experience of those emotions.
On the other end of the spectrum, Gate 22 holds the energy for repression and reactivity. This is the energy of self-denial and emotional starvation. Shame lives on this side of Gate 22 energy.
Gate 22 – The Gate Of Openness
Gate 22 is called the Gate of Openness because those with this gate are always experiencing an internal pressure to express their emotions and are always able to sense the emotions of those around them. Those with Gate 22 are able to talk about anything and this gift of gab strengthens those who they interact with.
Opening Yourself Up To The World – Tips and Cautions
Gate 22 is emotional and can be overwhelming at times. This energy can be managed and channeled in multiple ways.
Dive into art, literature, music, nature, or any activity that brings you joy.
Your emotional polarity creates strong waves and can either strongly attract or aggressively repel others. Don’t take this personally! You are not everyone’s cup of tea.
By embracing your feelings and emotions you inspire those around you to accept their feelings as well. This ability may influence others to tell you how they are feeling. Sudden expressions of emotions from strangers are not uncommon for those with Gate 22. Though this can be uncomfortable, take it as a compliment of your inviting energy.
Gate 22 contains the great gift of being able to feel others’ emotions. Practice tuning into others without experiencing the emotion yourself. Those with an Open Solar Plexus will find this very challenging.
The Non-Self Of Gate 22
The not-self of Gate 22 manifests when one does not follow their Human Design strategy and authority. The not-self is subject to social conditioning and does not trust its design.
If you have Gate 22 and are living in the not-self, you are an emotional steamroller. You create chaos in your life and in those around you. You are impulsive and impatient. To others, you appear anti-social, and maybe even mean. This meanness is especially apparent in situations where you are compelled to socialize. This pressure to socialize can really sneak in for non-energy types.
Strategies for working through Gate 22
The grace in Gate 22 needs to be extended to yourself first! Don’t save all that energy for others.
Check in with yourself and get a gauge of your mood. Once you check in you can decide how to plan your actions. If you’re cranky, it might be best to stay home tonight. If you can’t stay home, how can you find moments to destress?
We are socially conditioned to push down our emotions. Gate 22 needs to feel its feelings and the extent of emotions. This will be very uncomfortable at first but the more you give yourself grace the easier it will be. Those with defined Solar Plexus, remember to wait until the emotions pass before making any decisions.
”Just be happy” sounds like pretty terrible advice, unless you have a defined Gate 22. The best way to harness the power of Gate 22 is to have a regular practice, or routine, to help you maintain your emotional alignment. Find a way to have as much fun as possible and a way to feel your very best at all times.
Tips for harnessing Gate 22 in a positive way
Emotional energy makes a lot of us uncomfortable. In a world where emotions are shunned, and deeply feeling our feelings is viewed as a sign of weakness, Gate 22 can be hard.
The idea of surrendering to your emotions and allowing them the space they need lives within Gate 22. This gate contains the wisdom for allowing your unique self to shine out to the world. We all need immense courage to live our designs and to give ourselves and others the grace needed to do so.
Feel your feelings. Give grace to yourself and others. Honor your need to be alone. And when in doubt, try to have some more fun.
