The Not Self Theme Bitterness in Human Design (Projectors)
- Bitterness: This feeling occurs when Projectors are not recognized or invited to share their guidance and insights. They might feel overlooked, unappreciated, or misunderstood, which can lead to a sense of bitterness.
The Not Self Theme in Human Design
In Human Design, the “Not Self Theme” refers to a specific emotional state or feeling that indicates when someone is not living according to their true self or design. This state arises when they are not following their unique strategy and authority, leading to feelings of frustration, bitterness, anger, or disappointment, depending on their type. For Projectors, the Not Self Theme is bitterness.
Signs of Bitterness
- Unrecognized Efforts: When Projectors put in effort and are not acknowledged or invited to contribute.
- Unsuccessful Initiatives: When Projectors try to initiate actions or projects without waiting for the right invitations, leading to frustration and bitterness.
- Lack of Validation: When Projectors feel their unique talents and abilities are not being seen or valued.
How to Address Bitterness in Your Life
- Wait for Invitations: Projectors thrive when they wait for the right invitations and recognition before taking action.
- Self-Care and Reflection: Taking time for self-care and reflection can help Projectors align with their true nature and reduce feelings of bitterness.
- Recognize Personal Value: Projectors should recognize their own value and unique insights, trusting that the right invitations will come when they are in alignment with their true self.
Understanding and addressing the Not Self Theme of bitterness can help Projectors live more authentically and experience greater satisfaction and success in their lives.
Now that we’ve done a quick overview – let’s probe deeper into each element of this important topic.
How do you know when you are living your Not Self theme?
Human Design has a unique warning system built in for each type. This warning emerges as our not self theme, for example, the not self theme of bitterness. Your not self, also referred to as your false self, is a way to describe the feelings or actions we have when we are operating from a place of social conditioning, rather than living with our designs.
When we look at our BodyGraphs there are areas of openness (white) and definition (colored in). Our defined areas are our life force. We carry the energy of our definition everywhere we go. On the other hand, our open centers take in energy from our environment. These centers can be a source of great power, but also a place of vulnerability. When we take in energy that tells us we are wrong, we become vulnerable to living as our not self. Following our strategy and authority is the way to combat this not self.
When we are operating in the not self, it’s common to try to meet the expectations of others in order to be recognized. This is not a flaw in our personalities but part of our hardwiring as a human being. We want to feel accepted by those around us because, at a primal level, this means we are safe. We find ourselves in a precarious situation when we are recognized for our not self because it is not real recognition. After all, the Projector thrives on recognition.
Projectors (Orchestrators)
The Projector (Orchestrator) plays a very special role in the world. They carry knowledge, insights, and wisdom that have the potential to transform the way we build the world. They process and work with energy and intuitively understand how energy works and energy flows. This energetic awareness gives them insights into how to translate the world’s energy into reality.
The Projector’s internal energy and wisdom are activated through recognition and invitation. They need to be seen and valued to be heard and to be able to relay their wisdom effectively.
Projectors rely on the creative process, and energy, of others in order to best serve the world. If the Projector is not engaging in correct alignment with the creative process, they run the risk of using their own energy to force a project into form. Projectors can’t create their own energy and if they attempt to, they can burn themselves out. When a Projector burns out they seek recognition and attempt to do all the work themselves.
An exhausted Projector can be bitter. When a Projector is bitter, it means that they are not valuing themselves enough to wait for the people who genuinely cherish their insights and wisdom to activate their energy. It can also mean that they simply require rest.
Projectors who wait for the right opportunity, and recognition, are able to lead others.
What Is Not Self Theme Bitterness?
When a Projector is living in their not self they will feel bitter. Waiting can be hard, and our world tells us to “go get ‘em”, or “chase your dreams.” However, a Projector needs to wait for the right invitations in order to be successful. It is a shock for many Projectors to learn that they really need to just sit down and relax to be successful.
Projectors often struggle with boundaries – theirs and others. Their open Sacral center makes it very challenging to know when enough is truly enough.
Here is an example: Steve works a 9-5 office job with room for advancement. He desperately wants to move up in the company. He comes in early. He stays late. He pushes his colleagues to give him more feedback and is constantly asking questions like, “Is this okay?” “Tell me if you like this” or the dreaded “You know what I would do?”
As time goes on, Steve gets frustrated and thinks “Why don’t they promote me?! I do so much for this company and no one recognizes it. I’m still stuck in the same place I was a year ago. I work twice as hard as anyone in here” Steve has pushed his boundaries and the boundaries of those around him.
As a Projector you must wait for your invitation and recognition, or you will burn out and become bitter.
When a Projector feels bitter they will push their opinions onto others. They will seek attention and ultimately others will not hear them. The not self Projector gives information to those who are not asking for it. They will speak, and speak, only to have their wisdom fall on deaf ears. We can not be heard until we are invited to speak.
Other Terms For Not Self Theme For Projectors (Orchestrators)
Bitterness can also be described as frustrated, burned out, apathetic, or resentment. Some Projectors may also notice that along with the bitterness, there is also a feeling of being invisible.
The Opposite Of Not Self For A Projector (Orchestrator)
The opposite of a bitter, not self, Projector (Orchestrator) is a successful Projector. The not self is a warning that we are off course and your type’s signature is confirmation that you are on the right path.
Projectors are on this earth to guide and contribute. They are wise and tend to become experts in their chosen fields.
The tricky part is that your wisdom cannot be given to the world if you are not invited to share it. This isn’t a Human Design trick but it does require you to unlearn the patterns that have not served you so far.
When you feel bitterness sneaking in this is your signal to course correct. Rather than wallow in your resentment you are being energetically invited to step into your power.
Take time to find what lights you up inside. When you find that light it is time to share with the world -without the need for external validation. This is also the time to remember you can recognize yourself and acknowledge your power. When you reach this place you will attract the recognition and invitations you need so that you can use your inner authority to make the best decisions.
Deconditioning For Projectors To Avoid Not Self Theme Bitterness
Deconditioning is a vital process for all humans as we discover our designs. Everyone is subject to aspects of social conditioning, but for the Projector it is especially important.
With all of your open centers, you have absorbed so many different energies over your life that it can be challenging to understand who you truly are.
Projectors spend a lot of time lost in their own minds, and the mind is not very eager to begin the deconditioning process. Your mind wants to justify things in order to make you comfortable, and deconditioning can be anything but comfortable. Allow yourself to experience this discomfort so your true self can shine.
As a Projector (Orchestrator), your body is the key to deconditioning:
Sleep alone.
We are always radiating energy- even in our sleep. With all your open centers you are always absorbing energy, and during rest is when your body can rid itself of excess energy. Solitary sleep spaces allow you to get real rest so you can begin each day as yourself.
It is also a good habit to lay down before you are tired. The process of resting needs to begin before attempting to fall asleep. Many Projectors may also find that the act of laying down allows them to rest and come back to themselves.
Nature.
Our modern world keeps us inside. Projectors benefit immensely from being outdoors and nature acts as an energy filter. It allows us to rid ourselves of energy that does not serve us and fills us up with what we need. Grounding, or simply standing on the earth without shoes, can be very helpful for Mental Projectors as a way of connecting to nature and discharging energy that is not your own.
Alone Time.
Allow yourself to be alone. Projectors need extra time alone to get in touch with themselves and to rid themselves of others’ energies. If bitterness has snuck in, time alone is also very beneficial to bring you back to your strategy of waiting for your invitation.
If you are familiar with Human Design profiles, take a look and see if your profile contains Line Two, The Hermit, energy. If you have Line Two energy your alone time is even more critical to your wellbeing.
Nourishment.
Projectors , and other non-energy types, are very sensitive to the foods that enter their bodies. Pay close attention to your body’s reactions after eating and try to use the highest quality fuel you can. You may have food allergies, intolerances, or sensitivities to ingredients that can cause havoc on your body. Eat good- Feel Good.
The most powerful piece of the Projector deconditioning puzzle is to remember you are a Projector living in a world designed for Generators (Alchemists). You are not here to work. You are not lazy or unmotivated. You have done your best to keep up in a world that is simply not designed for you. Allow yourself the time and space to learn how to operate in your design so the right invitations can find you.
